Descriptive Overview of Singalila Trek

Every year, the Singalila walk attracts hundreds of lovers, and you are cordially invited to take part in the magnificent trek this year. A 16-day Singalila trekking trip will pick you up from your location in Sikkim so that you can really enjoy exploring the highest peaks in the world. Arrive at the Bagdogra airport to start this strenuous, long journey. Take a stroll along the peaceful paths that pass through Pelling, Uttarey, Chiwa Bhanjyang, Dhor, Pare Megu, Lam Pokhari, Gomathang, Tikip Chu, Dzongri, Lamuney, Goecha La, and Thangshing. The majority of the routes are covered in lush forest ranges, wildflowers, wide meadows, far peak views, and numerous further tough climbs to get to each destination.

From the first day on, this lengthy Singalila Ridge trekking programme has everything to amaze you. It includes everything from the charming villages along the border between Sikkim and Nepal to the breathtaking views of Mount Everest. Some days are entirely devoted to reaching the lofty heights that can only be reached by working up a significant sweat. Numerous instances, the routes won’t be amicable, so you’ll need to argue skillfully.

The final section of the Singalila walk is from Tshoka to Yuksom, where you have a free day to explore and take in the area’s many tourist attractions. Your 17-day walk ends after being dropped off at Bagdogra airport from Yuksom.

Descriptive Overview of Singalila Trek

  • Day 1 - Enjoy a Great Day in Pelling

Spend a complete day in Pelling visiting places of tourist interest including Pemayangtshe Monastery, changa chollan monastery, Rabdentshe palace. Return to your hostel and have lunch followed by your travel to Chiwa Bhanjyang.

  • Day 2 - Pelling to Chiwa Bhanjyang

You will wind your way up and over the highest parts of the Singalila Ridge, which separates Sikkim from Nepal, for eight days. The odd yak herder may be encountered along the road. Even if they may sound foreign to you, the names given to areas around here generally reflect what they are used for, such as high pastures, passes, and ridge points. Travel through dense forests, rhododendron swaths, wide hills, holy lakes, and inaccessible passes. A hike to the nearby Singalila Peak at 3500m will give you valuable acclimatization and some excellent views.

  • Day 3 - Chiwa Bhanjyang to Dhor

You can find prayer flags and a clear glimpse of the tall towers in the distance by making a modest uphill trek through a woodland and then across a more exposed hillside. When you look far below at the rice fields and cardamom plantations, the only indication of human life is the occasional yak herder's cabin. Your campsite will be secluded and surrounded by untainted nature.

  • Day 4 - Dhor to Pare Megu

A five-minute stroll up the ridge after waking up just before dawn may allow you to see the magnificent sunrise over Kanchenjunga and Everest. You will continue ascending and lowering to maintain a constant elevation spiral from one side of the ridge to the next during the entire day, until a challenging steep ascent takes us across a pass. After passing a number of Hindu shrines, the trail continues to meander steadily through rhododendrons until it reaches another, simpler pass that descends to our camp near a shepherd's summer settlement. Discover the blue sheep as they descend the mountainside.

  • Day 5 - Pare Megu to Lam Pokhari

Continue on a decent track through the forest until you reach a steep ascent into a wide valley, where you will be able to see the Kabru range, which is dominated by Mount Pandim, for the first time up close (6,691m). You will reach the campsite close to the Everest and a number of other Khumbu giants dominating the distant skyline after another two hours of trek. An afternoon of relaxation and acclimatization before the arduous walking the next day.

  • Day 6 - Lam Pokhari to Gomathang

We have arrived in a region of high mountains, with trees spread out below. You have completed the Lam Pokhari, marking the end of your two-day trip along the Nepal border and your return to Sikkim. As you ascend to the first pass, the Danphe Bhir La at 4,530 metres, also known as the Pass of the Pheasant, you can anticipate some snow on the ground. From here, you can see all of Sikkim, with a view that extends all the way to Tibet and Bhutan. The KagBhir La, where you may have enough time and space to see a panorama of Himalayan peaks, including Khangchendzonga, is revealed after another hour of contouring and a brief ascent. To get to the base camp beside the river where you will spend the night, descend the hill.

  • Day 7 - Gomathang to Tikip Chu

Leave your delightful camp in the meadow and climb through fragrant silver fir and rhododendron trees. You will soon return to the high mountainous terrain. Keep an eye out for the vividly coloured Danphe birds (Impeyan Pheasants), which breed in the lofty crags surrounding the 4,200-meter Kamsey La. To view the next pass, which is at a height of 4,300 metres and may be reached after a steady journey up a steep crag to a skyline dominated by the soaring pinnacles and snowy cliffs of Kanchenjunga, descend to the Kok ling Meadows. Another hard descent to the campsite beside the Tikip Chu, which has its source high in the Rathong highlands, will mark the conclusion of the day (6,679 m.)

  • Day 8 - Tikip Chu to Dzongri

Your path today merges with the common track leading to the Goecha La. A steady ascent leads to the summer pastures of Dzongri after passing through an old fir forest, juniper, and rhododendron forest. Another high camp, but by this point you should probably be acclimated.

  • Day 9 - Dzongri to Lamuney

Down the hill to Kokchulang, where you can run into other hikers, made us reflect back and really appreciate the tranquilly and seclusion of our last few days. Navigate the valley easily, passing the crowded Thangsing trekkers' campsite before arriving at our own riverside campsite a short distance below Samiti Lake.

  • Day 10 - Lamuney - Goecha La - Thangshing

Start early in the clear, chilly morning air, with your sights set on the Goecha La (The Locked Gate), which rises to a height of about 5000 metres. The view from our personal "top" is just as breathtaking as the breathtaking Himalayan environment that surrounds us, which is comprised of cascading glaciers, pinnacles, ridges, and soaring peaks, all of which are dominated by the towering Kanchenjunga. To start the day off right, head back to your high camp. After that, descend to Thangsing where, at just 3,600 m, the air feels incredibly rich. Depending on how much time you spend at Goecha La, the day could be as long as ten hours.

  • Day 11 - Thangsing - Lampokhari - kokchurung

Long Lake, or Lampokhari, offers a significant hike that includes a moderate ascent and descent before returning to Kokchurung, which takes a total of 5 to 6 hours.

  • Day 12 - Kokchurung - Tshoka

Follow the conventional path back to the main valley today on unfamiliar terrain. The charming tiny Tibetan town of Tshoka is nestled on a mountain ridge. You will experience permanent village life for the first time during your trek, and the novelty of having a roof over your head will give the adventure a fresh perspective.

  • Day 13- Tshoka to Yuksom

Descend through lush, bird- and flower-filled rainforest while crossing magnificent bridges over gushing rivers, the headwaters of which are in the mountains you have already seen. You will arrive in Yuksom exhausted and happy. Then, check into your hotel and unwind. You have the choice to enjoy the final day with your teammates since this will be your last evening with the hiking group.

  • Day 14- Leisure day at Yuksom

Take a day off and do as you choose while you are in Yuksom.

  • Day 15 - Departure

Get up early, eat some breakfast or tea, and then take a drive to Bagdogra or NJP Railway Station for your return trip.
